FYI: SM Entertainment is the biggest and most likely the most influencial agency in all of Korea. It is the main powerhouse that created the likes of Boa, TVXQ, H.O.T., and Super Junior to name a few. It has become a common saying in Korea, “if you dont make it with SM you can’t make it in showbusiness”. And for the most part is true because of the rarity that its artists do not make the top of music charts, break sales records, or attract hoards of over-fanatical fans. Well to sum it up it has been the season for girl-groups. Most entertainment agencies in Korea have already debut their bids for a piece of the market. Groups such as Baby Vox Rev., Wonder Girls, Strong Women No Spouse, and Seeya, have been ripping each other apart for stage time and a chance to attract support for their inevitable, and mostly overtly cute or sexy concept, debut albums.

And of course, Lee Soo Man, the head of SM is not going to fall behind the trend, but ith Soo Man there will be a twist. He will launch an undisclosed number of girls, rumored to be around 6-13 members (mostly 1989-1991 born) and also hyped up to be the girl version of Super Junior, a 13 member boy group enjoying vast popularity in Korea at the moment. But unlike his fellow CEOs, Lee Soo Man has a unique marketing strategy to attract attention and hopefully fans to his new “creation.” And that is…Introducing them to the public One by One. Yes, Ladies and Gentlement since last week he has been releasing one name per day of his new artists soon to debut. The netizens have dubbed them “SUPER GIRLS.” <– unofficial name To be honest, this old Kimchi is pretty smart using psychology to his advantage and to his profit, as well. Knowing the Korean market’s love for intrigue, he introduces one member a day for early dissection. Yes the Korean fans love disscecting celebrities; wanting to know everything about them from their childhood down to their underwear size. My problem is the fact that, save from No. 5 member (<–yes that is how they are referred to) they all look the same. They all look like everyday Korean girls, nothing really special. No. 5 looks like a Filipina. Some forum bunnies even claim some have had surgery before and that it seems like the surgeon got lazy and gave them all the same face?! LOL. I sincerly hope they do have talent though because with such a large group and with such average looks they’ll have to perform miracles to attract a large a following like Super Junior or TVXQ. It also doesn’t help that girl-groups are not that largely popular like their male counterparts. Sure they may sell a CD or two, but with the knowledge that their market are hormone-drugged teenage boys, they might not get that far. Fangirls shamelessly flaunt their love for their idols, spend half their parent’s income on idol embezelled paraphernalia, and buy auctioned concert tickets for hundreds if not thousands of dollars (Arashi did), but fanboys on the other hand are a little more controlled and certainly poorer. CJSH, the girl version of TVXQ, are enjoying some fame now but often appearing in shows with their male co-”gasoos”, because their company fears for the low demand. FYI: A Super Girls group was suppose to debut in March, but for some unknown reason it never materialized. Some forum bunnies think it is most likely because some “predicted” members have too many antifans already equipped making a successful debut unlikely. One is a “predicted” member named, Jessica Jung, rumored to have dated Dong Hae (Super Junior) and Kim JaeJoong (TVXQ), creating a massive outcry of out-of-touch-with-reality- fangirls to hate her beyond belief. I pray for “Super Girls’” debut and success, because God knows they’ll need it. They have other girl groups to compete with, Male counterparts to emulate and hopefully (although unlikely) beat, and rabid fangirls that will tear them apart because of their association with Super Junior and TVXQ.
